April 9, 2020, Alfred Abbott went to be with the Lord after losing his 5th battle with cancer. His strong faith in God and the healthcare from his wife and daughter enabled him to overcome 4 prior cancers, but this time God wanted him to come home.

Alfred was born January 13, 1937, in Man, WV, to the late Joseph and Nellie (Mitchell) Abbott. The family moved to the Bidwell, OH area when he was a young teenager. Alfred graduated from Bidwell Porter High School where he excelled in sports. He moved to Blackfork to live, when he met and married his first wife, Janice Harris. He became a member of Union Baptist Church in Blackfork, and served as a deacon. Alfred was an employee of Cherrington Scrap Metal in Oak Hill for many years, and retired from Kyger Creek Power Plant, but he enjoyed being an OTR truck driver the most. Alfred gave himself the CB handle of “Junkyard Dog” from his days at Cherrington Scrap Metal.

God gave Alfred a singing voice that was truly a blessing to anyone who heard it. He sang for weddings, local community events, church programs, funerals; anytime he was asked or needed, which was a lot.

Along with his parents, Alfred is preceded in death by his first wife Janice Harris Abbott, sons: Joseph Michael Abbott, James Dewey (J. D.) Abbott; sisters, Mary Chambers, Rose Ramsey, Luvada Robinson and Joe Ann Abbott; and also his stepmother, Edna Abbott.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Glenna Scott Abbott; son, Alfred Anthony Abbott; daughter, Andrea Abbott; sister, Newatha Meyers; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Clovadys and Rev. Harry Scott; nieces, Sonia Scott Booker and Lucretia Scott Scalia, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Heaven’s choir must be rejoicing, they finally gained their long awaited and much anticipated new singer.

“God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be.

So He put his arms around you and whispered-

Come on home to me.”

A private family memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11th, 2020 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Alfred's memory to the Union Baptist Church. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
