About Us
During a time of loss, you need the help of compassionate experts who can offer guidance and support throughout the planning process. At Lewis & Gillum Funeral Homes, we believe that every life deserves to be celebrated. Our mission is to assist families in creating personalized funeral experiences that honor the life of their loved ones.
For many years, we have served our community by providing healing and meaningful funeral and memorial services that honor life and meet the needs of those who grieve. Our hope is that from the moment you walk through our doors, you feel welcomed, respected, and heard.
Our Mission Statement
Lewis & Gillum Funeral Homes are here to provide expert care and guidance during the most traumatic time in someone’s life. Our goal is to guide, listen, and care for those who are mourning. Our other equally important mission is to provide a meaningful, dignified funeral service for those who place their trust in us. We have done so for almost 40 years in Jackson and almost 80 years in Oak Hill. We wish to honor a life and do so while being mindful of cost to the family, as our prices will compare with any other funeral home in the area.
In 2012, we remodeled both our Jackson and Oak Hill locations to better suit our families and show them that we care about the facilities they use for services. Our goal is to be a very aesthetically modern funeral home but also maintain a traditional feel to what we do. Our area of expertise is traditional funerals, graveside services, cremation with services, direct cremations, and the prearrangement counseling for these services. However, we will do our best to carry out whatever wishes you have to accurately portray the life that your loved one lived.
I would like to thank the families who put their trust in us, call upon us in such difficult and painful times, and allow us to serve you. It truly is a privilege.

A Brief History of Our Funeral Home
Kuhner-Lewis Funeral Home began approximately in 1941, owned and operated by David Kuhner of Oak Hill. David Kuhner's nephew, Edward "Shorty" Lewis, partnered with Kuhner and bought the business shortly before Kuhner's death in 1951.
Shorty and his son, Stan, along with an uncle, Jack Thomas, continued the care and compassion of coordinating both funerals and a running ambulance service for Oak Hill until Shorty's sudden death in 1978. At 26 years old, Stan and his wife, Sherry, took over the family business with the help of Uncle Jack and Stan's mother, Peg.
In 1984, Stan bought the Eisnaugle Funeral Home in Jackson, owned and operated by Jack and Helen Eisnaugle. Now with both the Kuhner-Lewis Funeral Home and Eisnaugle-Lewis Funeral Home, Stan, Sherry, and their dedicated staff continued their lives and their work. In 2012, after six years of employment, Stan and Sherry worked with myself (David) and my wife, Joanie Gillum, and changed the names of both businesses to Lewis & Gillum Funeral Homes of Jackson and Oak Hill.
Stan and Sherry retired in 2016 and are currently enjoying life after 40+ years of community service. It's important to note that while they "worked" for 40+ years, their job was full of enjoyment, and they became a huge part of their two communities, I say that honestly. Joanie and I would like to continue to keep things as they have always been with both businesses and take care of the people who have such incredible loyalties to our two small, family-owned funeral homes. This career is sometimes very difficult mentally, emotionally, and physically, but when it's a calling from the Lord Himself, we can't argue.
I once heard a minister say that "the safest place one can be in life is in the middle of God's will." I wholeheartedly believe that's exactly where I am and where I want to remain. Thank you for giving us the honor and privilege of serving your family.
