Mabel Mae Maloney, age 98, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025, at The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She was born October 8th, 1926, to the late Walter D. and Josie (Henderson) Yinger.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Michael) O’Day; granddaughter, Dana (Mike) Coatney; grandsons, Mike (Mandi) O’Day and Andrew (Ashley) O’Day; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; a great-great-granddaughter anticipated in June; as well as several nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as “Aunt Mae”.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merritt I. Maloney; son, Michael R. Maloney; granddaughter, Shawn L. Bartlett; brothers, Delmar Yinger, and Ernest (Helen) Yinger; and sister, Molly (Carl) Donaldson.

 

Mabel was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Jackson, Ohio. She was a woman of strong faith who loved the Lord. Mabel enjoyed singing in the choir, serving on her church board, providing missionary service, and helping with special events, such as the veteran’s breakfast and more.

 

She was a retired teacher with the Jackson City Schools who had recently gotten back in the classroom to help celebrate “Read Across America Week.” Mabel was a life-long resident of Jackson County. She enjoyed traveling, quilt making, reading, crocheting, and tending to her flowers.

 

Mabel will be missed for her strength and determination, as well as her love of visiting with family and friends.

 

Special thanks to the entire staff at Holzer Assisted Living of Jackson as well as those who helped care for her at The Ohio State University Hospital. The family greatly appreciates the care and compassion shown to Mabel.

 

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, from 11AM-1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson with a service beginning at 1PM with Rev. Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Buckeye Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
