John Frederick Klein

John Frederick Klein, 80, of Oak Hill, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, at the Ohio Health Hospice House in Columbus, OH. He was born on July 21, 1946, in Huntington, West Virginia to the late Frederick Wilbur and Mable Louise (Powers) Klein.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jenny Klein, son, Scott Maple and his grandsons, Cole Maple and Brock Maple.

He is survived by daughter, Josie (Tim) Howard; and son, Darren Maple of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Kayleigh (Stephen) Osborne, Karley (Alec) Osborne, Braxton Maple, Elizabeth Maple, Baylee (Leo) Gama, Kameron Maple, Brooke Howard, Jordan Howard and Harlee Maple; and great-grandchildren, Juniper Osborne, Vivian Osborne, Neveah Maple, Ridge Osborne, Archer Osborne, Ada Osborne, and several additional great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Joe (Debra) Klein of Proctorville, Jim (Joy) Klein of Parrish, FL, and Vance Klein of Juneau, AK.

John was a faithful servant of Jesus Christ and a man whose life was rooted in faith, family, hard work, and love. He attended Oak Hill Church of the Nazarene faithfully every Sunday until his health no longer allowed him to do so. His faith in the Lord was an important part of who he was, and he found comfort in knowing that his salvation through Jesus Christ was his eternal hope.

John was a hardworking man throughout his life. In his younger years, he worked as a butcher before beginning his career as a welder at Service Machine Corporation, where he worked until his retirement in 2012. After retirement, John continued working, spending several years at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Homes from approximately 2014 until 2023. It was a job he truly loved, where he had the privilege of working alongside coworkers who became lifelong friends.

While John was proud of his work, his greatest joy in life was his family. He loved spending quality time with the people he loved and was happiest when surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son, and friend, and his family will forever remember his kindness, humor, strength, and unwavering love.

John enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and mowing grass. He especially loved his Marshall Thundering Herd and could often be found watching Marshall football. These were some of the things that brought him the greatest happiness, but nothing compared to the joy he found in his family.

John’s family will forever cherish the memories they made with him—the conversations, the laughter, the time spent together, and all of the ordinary moments that became extraordinary simply because he was there.

His life was a testament to the importance of faith, family, hard work, and love. Though his family will deeply miss his presence, his memory will live on through every person he loved, every lesson he taught and every life he touched.

John will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of his family and friends.

Friends may call Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, from 4-8 PM and Thursday, October 1, 2026, from 12-1 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Bryan Malott officiating. Burial will follow in Horeb Cemetery.
