Wayne Russell Williams

Wayne Russell Williams, age 79, of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away Monday, October 8th, 2026, at Holzer Medical Center after an extended illness. Wayne was born April 3rd, 1947, in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Floyd C. and Vergie (Lyons) Williams.

Wayne is a 1965 graduate of Oak Hill High School where he was an All-State football player. After high school, Wayne entered the Army where he was stationed in Germany. Wayne was an electrician, retired from the IBEW after 44 years of service.

Wayne’s greatest joy was farming. He was a member of both the Jackson County Farm Bureau and the Ohio Farm Bureau. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Moriah Sportsman Hunting Club.

Wayne is survived by his partner, Peggy Johnson; sisters-in-law, Sandy Williams and Rhonda Williams; special friend, Brooke Johnson Wright; several nieces and nephews; and numerous friends whom he loved dearly.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, June Thomas Williams; brothers, Lewis Williams and James “Buddy” Williams; and sister, Patricia Gould.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 11th, 2026, from 1PM-3PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with a service immediately after at 3PM with Rev. Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Moriah Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
