Georgia L. Hughes, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Monday, October 24th, 2022, at the age of 87. She was born February 16th, 1935, daughter of the late, Gerald W. and Georgia Lafaune (Martin) King.
Georgia grew up in Scioto Township and was active in 4-H. She was a graduate of both Jackson High School and the University of Rio Grande. Georgia taught elementary school for many years, working mostly in Gallia County. She was a direct descendant of James Martin and his son, Hugh. Hugh’s older brother was Salt Boiler” John, the first permanent resident of Jackson.
She is survived by her niece, Diane Getty of South Point, Ohio; nephew, William Massie of Circleville, Ohio; nieces, Kelly Tosaka of Longmont, Colorado and Dinah Campbell of Falcon, Colorado; as well as special friends, Hazel Frisby, Janice Hively, Joy Sharp, Alishia Moon, Pat Dearth, and Richard Elliott.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Lt. Col. Gerald William King Jr.; her first husband, Herman Massie; and her second husband, Charles “Bud” Hughes.
Georgia loved watching Ohio State Football, collecting dolls, and reading.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 27th, 2022, from 11-1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will follow at 1PM with Rev. Josh Andrews officiating.
