Gene Alva Massie, age 83, of Jackson, Ohio passed away at Adena of Chillicothe after an extended illness. He was born October 7th, 1940, in Waterloo, Ohio to the late Edgar and Mary (Bowen) Massie.

 

Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War.  He enjoyed watching westerns and loved his truck driving job in which he drove many miles across both the U.S. and Canada. He was a former assistant pastor at Oakland Holiness Church and a member of The Restorations, a gospel group that traveled various places to play. Gene was also an ordained minister and was able to perform both his son and daughter’s weddings. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

 

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alma (Wilson) Massie; son, Joshua (April) Massie; daughter, Deborah (James) Dulaney; grandchildren: Katelynn D. Massie, Aiden G. Massie, Jade Dulaney, Ryder Dulaney; siblings: Harvey Massie, Rachel Fellars, Ruth Gardener, Eve Gillum, Velvie McKenzie; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Grace Massie.

 

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 18th, 2024, from 2-4PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Military honors will begin at 4PM. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
