Thomas Allen Hargett Sr. “John”, age 77, of Oak Hill, Ohio passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born in Harmon, Virginia on October 16, 1942 to the late James Thomas and Mary Florence (Hackney) Hargett.

Tom grew up, known as John Allen Hargett, a young man from the hollers of Virginia, with a stubborn streak and independent mindset that led him to move to Oak Hill, Ohio as a teenager to work and start a new life with his cousins. There he met his beautiful bride, Sandy Hommes. They fell in love fast and were married on February 21, 1965 and started their family of four children. As a young husband he worked at Dick Brown’s Fruit Farm until he was hired at the Oak Hill Foundry, where he worked almost 40 years as a Maintenance Man until he retired. His favorite things were listening to old country music and bluegrass, working on cars in his garage, chewing his tobacco, sitting on his porch swing, and drinking a diet Pepsi with family. He was a member of the Jackson First Church of the Nazarene and lived these last years of his life honoring his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his children, Deb (Randy) Adkins, of Oak Hill, Tom (Christina) Hargett, of Chillicothe, Ronald (Rebecca) Hargett, of Jackson, and Tereasa (Michael) Carmon, of Pheonix, AZ; grandchildren, Kyle, Chris, Cody, John, Shawn and Shane Hargett, Blake Tinker, Miranda Temple, Jerry Adkins, Russell Allen, Seth, Teawna and Shandy Carmon; brothers, Jerry (Bessie) Hargett, Larry (Margie) Hargett; sisters, Helen Ward, Patsy (Dennis) Kendrick; special friend, Paulene Mayse, of Jackson; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra K. Hargett, his grandson, Brandon Lee Henry. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Linda Sue, Agnes, Loretta, Clyde, Clayton and Perry.

Private services will be held at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with Brian and Larry Hargett officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
