Frederick “Fred” Jean Newsom, age 62, of Oak Hill, joined his beloved wife Penny in Heaven on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Fred was born in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Thomas and Edith (Kinney) Newsom on September 9, 1955.

Fred was a heavy equipment operator for 30 years and worked for several local coal companies. He was most importantly a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, dad and friend to many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, of 34 years, Penny (Allen) Newsom; two brothers, Fon and George Newsom; two sisters, Eiline Cochran and Amelia Wicker and a very special niece, Holly Jean Shepherd.

He is survived by one daughter, Misty (Kevin) Burchett; one son, Kinney (Joanie) Newsom; grandchildren, Koltin Burchett, Ciera Barrett, Jayden and Kelsey Newsom; one great grandchild, Elijah Barrett; one sister, Patricia “Fern” (David) Mitchell and one brother, Avery Newsom; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call Friday, March 30, 2018 from 11-1 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Travis Potts officiating. Burial will follow in Newsom Family Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
