Norma Jean Tope Carter, 92, went to her heavenly home on June 11, 2022. She was born on Friday, September 13, 1929 to the late Burgess Tope Sr. and Avonell (Hollback) Tope. She was a Child of The King and the love of the Lord

shone in her as bright as the star of Bethlehem.


Norma was a member of the graduating class of 1947 from Blackfork High School. She served many children through kitchen work and management at several schools in the Dayton, Ohio area including Northridge High School, Grafton Kennedy Elementary and Timberlane Elementary from which she retired in 1990. After retirement, Norma continued to serve others through work at Dollar General, Meals on Wheels, Hancock Fabrics, and Winfield Child Development Center. Of all these responsibilities, Norma’s proudest achievements were being a devoted wife, loving mother, amazing sister, and adoring grandmother and great-grandmother.


She was proceeded in death by her loving husband Clarence “Jiggs” Carter, her parents Burgess and Avonell Tope, brothers Earl Willis, and Burgess Tope Jr.


Those left to cherish her memory and continue her legacy of love and kindness are her daughter, Becky (Hoy) Fellure; her son Norman “Randy” Carter; one sister, Brenda “Kay” (Don) Burgess; granddaughters: Melissa (Teddy) Kester and Melanie (Kevin) Kelley; great-grandsons: TC (Kirsten) Kester, Nik (Maria) Kester, Jacob Kelley, Joshua Kelley, and Kaleb Kelley; and many, many special nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.


Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 16th, 2022 from 11AM-12PM with funeral services to follow at 12PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
