James Oscar Channell, age 84, of Jackson, passed away after a long illness on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Adena in Chillicothe. He was born January 10, 1939, in Jackson to the late Ora and Audrey (Radcliff) Channell.
He is survived by his daughters, Vicki Channell, and Leanne Fisher; son, Calvin Channell; grandchildren, Randy (Cassidy) Fisher, Corey Fisher, Ashlyn Fisher, Jaiden Fisher; great grandchildren, Kallie, Jax, Emerie and Cayson Fisher; and bonus grandchild Madi Friend; and cousin, Myrna Landrum.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Siders) Channell; brothers, Wayne Channell.
He went to Jackson High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably on a hospital ship during the Vietnam Era. He ended his military career as a chief petty officer. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Goodyear Uranium Enrichment in Piketon. He retired as a chief petty officer. He was part of the liar’s club at McDonalds. He was a papaw to everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 12-2 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 with Pastor Larry Boggs officiating.
