Berlin Owsley, age 87, of Four Winds Nursing Home, Jackson Ohio and formerly of McArthur, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Adena Regional Medical Center of Chillicothe, Ohio. He was born May 17, 1931 in Floyd County, Kentucky to the late William T. Owsley and Darcie A. (Ousley) Owsley. Berlin was married for 63 years to the late Edith (Coffey) Owsley.
His parents moved the family from Prestonsburg Kentucky to McArthur, Ohio in 1949 when he was 17 years old.
In his earlier years he worked in his father’s coal mine in Floyd Co. Kentucky and later at his father’s mine just out of Dundas, Ohio. He later worked as a laborer for a contractor building houses in the development known as “the heights” in Jackson, Ohio. He also worked briefly for a lumber yard in McArthur, until he was hired at Austin Powder Co. in McArthur, Ohio where he retired with 30 years employment there.
Berlin was a very loving and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He will truly and sadly be missed by all that knew him.
He attended Maggie’s Home Baptist Church in Dundas, Ohio
Berlin is survived by 3 sons; Ronald (Birgit) Owsley of Jackson, Ohio, Gerald (Mary) Owsley of Marietta, Ohio, and Berlin D. (Mindy) Owsley of Coolville, Ohio; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was proceeded in death by infant granddaughter, Mary Mae Owsley; brother, Lonnie (Shelby) Owsley; sister, Orbie (Alex) Bradley; and infant sister, Myrtle Owsley.
Calling hours are being held on Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 from 11-1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1PM at the funeral home with Elder Don Mullins officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Cemetery in McArthur, Ohio.
