Melvin Lee Massie

Melvin Lee “Mel” Massie, age 71, of Thurman, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on July 24, 2026, at Ohio State University hospital. Mel was born on July 12, 1955, in Northup, Ohio to the late Milton Ray Massie and Betty Jean (Myers) Massie.

Mel is survived by his wife of 53 years, Teresa Massie, of Thurman; son, Melvin Lee Massie Jr. (Jen Harmon), of Vinton, Ohio; granddaughter, Kali (Cody) Wemmer, of Ray, Ohio; siblings, Barabara Curnett, Jim Massie, and Michael Massie; special friends (who he called his brother and sister), Ronald and Barb Stephens and his “adopted son”, Brian Mershon and “adopted grandson”, Cody Lee Mershon.

In addition to his parents, Mel is preceded in death by his siblings: Hazel Gardner, Carolyn Valentine, and Donald Massie and Milton Roy “Mick” Massie; and special aunt, Nancy Myers.

Mel graduated from southwestern high school in 1972. He met his soon-to-be wife, Teresa in high school and soon after they married. After school, Mel worked for Willis Tire and then for American Electric Power for 33 years until his retirement around 2016. He was an avid NASCAR fan and collector, especially #3 Dale Ernhardt. He loved fishing in his younger years and working on cars.
