Shirley Louise Miller, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2022. She was born at home in Blackfork, Ohio on October 3, 1937, to the late Lewis and Frances (Lavey) Rawlins. As the oldest child, shehelped raise her nine younger siblings,who lovingly referred to her as “Hettie”.


Shirley was a homemaker who enjoyed flowers, gardening, and canning. She was a faithful member of Gallia Baptist Church and took pleasure in sponsoring Daily Bread Ministries booklets to share with friends and family. She also regularly contributed to Bearing Precious Seed, a scripture publishing ministry. When her health allowed, she enjoyed visiting local nursing homes singing and sharing her love for the Lord with others. For many years she also enjoyed activities with the Jackson County Senior Citizens. Shirley loved her family, friends, and her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She could most recently be remembered praising His name, telling others that “Jesus is alive and well” and sharing her testimony of how the Lord had blessed her.


She is survived by her children: Dianna (Daniel) Taylor of Gallia, Ohio, Donald (Christina) Miller of Jackson, Ohio, Janet Mercer of Conesville, Ohio, Kathy Ross of Dresden, Ohio, and Christopher (Deidra) Miller of Oak Hill, Ohio; siblings: Brenda Rawlins, Connie Miller, Charles “Ed” Rawlins, Roy Rawlins, Linda Gyor, and Ronnie Rawlins; grandchildren: Amy Davis, Jennifer James, James Ross, Adam Miller, Rodney Ross, Nathan Miller, and Eva Miller; as well as eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hayden Miller, whom she married in 1956; a son, Terry Hayden Miller; sons-in-law, Mike Mercer and Ronald Ross; and siblings: Robert Rawlins, Barbara Hommes, and Katie Rawlins.


Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 4th, 2022, from 11-1PM at Gallia Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1PM with Pastor Cline Rawlins officiating. Burial will follow in Gallia Baptist Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
