Paul S. Coyan, age 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his daughters and other family members at his home on Sunday, August 18th, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born March 2nd, 1942, in Jackson, Ohio to the late Floyd and Ruth (Wyatt) Coyan.
Paul was a graduate of Jackson High School. He retired from the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local #577 of Portsmouth, Ohio where he has been a member for more than 40 years. He also built and raced dirt track cars for over 40 years with more wins and trophies than you could count. He was inducted into the Atomic Speedway Hall of Fame in 2017.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Judy Riegel and Nancy (Bill) Jenkins; brother, Jack (Glenna) Coyan; sister, Ruth Spurlock; grandchildren: Whitney Boggs, Greg (Leili) Riegel, Cameron Jenkins, and James Jenkins; great-grandchildren: Beckett and Hudson Boggs and Zach and Addie Jenkins; many nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Larry “Whitey” Farrar, Jim Vulgamore, and Tom Trago.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol (Spriggs) Coyan; his brothers, Bill Coyan and Floyd “Boone” Coyan; sisters, Betty Brenneman, Ann Davis, and Hester Lenegar; and granddaughter, Ashley Nichole Riegel.
Paul was a loving Dad and Papaw, and he will be greatly missed.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 22nd, 2024, 4-8PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 23rd, 2024, at 1PM with Rev.
