Mattie (Alley) Roberts, age 83, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Jenkins Care Community of Wellston. She was born September 25th, 1940, in Blaine, Kentucky to the late Charley and Fannie (Davis) Alley.
Mattie is survived by her daughter, Robin (Mark) Hemming, of Jackson, Ohio; granddaughters, Holly (Christopher) Turner of Grove City, Ohio and Heidi (James) Doyle of Columbus, Ohio; two great-grandsons, Peyton and Parker Maxstead of Grove City, Ohio; sister, Stella (Alley) Young of Columbus, Ohio; two step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Garland M. Roberts and seven brothers and sisters.
Mattie, otherwise known as Mattie-Jane in her hometown in Kentucky, came from a very large family. She met her husband Garland when she was 16 in Columbus, Ohio. They wed, and seven years later, they adopted their daughter. Mattie worked as a hostess in downtown Columbus for a number of years. In addition, she worked as a seamstress and later moved to accounting at Medibill. She moved to Jackson after the birth of her second grandchild and was a resident of the county for nearly thirty years. She was an active member of Bethesda Freewill Baptist Church in Jackson, where she was the church treasurer and choir member. She was known for her kind words, smile, and biscuits & gravy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 1-3PM at the Lewis and Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 3 PM with Pastor Kevin Greene officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery in Jackson. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
