George W. Coleman II, age 78, of Jackson, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, October 21, 2022. George was born February 5, 1944, to the late George W. Coleman and Hazel (Miller) Coleman in Pikeville, Kentucky.


George grew up in Jackson, Ohio and graduated from Jackson High School in 1962. He entered the Air Force in March of 1965, bravely served 3 tours in Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in March of 1969. He settled down with his family in Jackson and worked at Goodyear as an engineer for a number of years. He then started a packaging business (Coleman Packaging Corporation) and eventually moved it to Jackson so that he could support and employ people in his hometown.


George is survived by his children, Denese Coleman Hudgins and George W. Coleman III who loved him dearly and were thankful for how hard he worked to support them. He is also survived by his loving wife, Sandra Coleman and her four children, Joe Healy, Steve Healy, David Healy, and Megan Davis. George also is survived by his stepdaughter, Mechelle Davis and his sisters, Brenda Exline, Georgia Coleman, Margaret Johnson, and Debra Coyan. He was also proud to be called “Poppy” to his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his dear brother, John Coleman in February of this year as well as his sister, Peggy Coleman and brother, Anthony Coyan.


George loved his family, his country, and his Buckeyes and was devoted to helping and serving the people of Jackson. He would not have chosen to live anywhere else. This was his home.


George’s family will host a funeral service at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home, 28 Harding Ave., Jackson, Ohio 45640 on Wednesday, October 26th, 2022, at 1:00PM with visitation preceding from 11AM-1PM. Burial to follow at Byers Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
