Wallace Lee “Wally” Johnson, age 81, passed away Monday, November 18th, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia due to an automobile accident in Jackson, Ohio.

He was born May 2nd, 1938 to the late Richard and Alwilda (McManis) Johnson of Lucasville, Ohio.

He attended Lucasville Valley School and joined the Army in July of 1956. He served during the Korea War where he was an Army medic and parachutist. He was a professional truck driver for several different companies. He was a foreman for Valley Township and a member of the Lucasville Valley Fire Department from 1968-1979 where he served as Fire Chief from 1977-1979. He was the manager of Beaver Meadows Apartments for 23 years in which he was recognized as Top Manager. He was active with the Moose Lodge where he was an officer and achieved pilgrim status and was a governor of Waverly and Jackson. He was also a member of the AmVets, DAV, American Legion, and the Eagles.

He is survived by his loving companion and his best friend of 35 years, Shirley (Wasmer) Bowman; three sons: Darrell Johnson of Leander, Texas, Ken (Penny) Johnson of Georgeton, Texas, and James Johnson of Portsmouth, Ohio; two daughters: Cindy Johnson and Cathy Johnson both of Columbus, Ohio; two step-daughters, Marsha Mutter and Michele (Curtiss) Jayjohn of Jackson, Ohio; one step-son, Rick (Kara) Bowman of Jackson, Ohio; 14 grandchildren: Courtney (Joel), Kristina (Nathan), Ryan, John, Donita (Mark), Catherine (Weston), Cody, Ian, Roshel Bowman, Katie (Tommy), Chad (Whitley), Connor (Becca), Casey, Erick (Courtney), and Barrett; 14 great-grandchildren: Sophie, Jonah, Isabella, Claire, Alina, Lyla, Kylan, Keylei, Lennon, Aiden, Christian, Natalie, Colton, and Adalynn; his sister, Eloise (Johnson) Personett of Lucasville, Ohio; two brothers: John (Faye) Johnson of Columbus, Ohio and Jesse Johnson of Fostoria, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews and the Wasmer family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Ralph, Richard Jr., and Walter; and one sister, Mary (Johnson) Tarr.

Friends may call Sunday, November 24, 2019 from 12:00-1:45 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 PM at Fairmount Cemetery with Pastor Bill Zink officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
