"The most wasted of all days is one without laughter." – e. e. cummings

Our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of our beloved sister, aunt, and niece, Leah. Her generous spirit and big heart left us too soon, but we will always remember her love, thoughtfulness, and big laugh.

Leah McGinnis, age 53, a long-time resident of Jackson, Ohio, passed away on May 18th, 2022, at her current home in The Plains, Ohio. She was born August 17th, 1968, in Gallipolis, Ohio to the late Harry McGinnis and Ramona (Sapp) McGinnis. As a child, she lived in Point Pleasant and Letart, West Virginia before moving to Ohio. She was a graduate of Oak Hill High School in Oak Hill, Ohio.

Leah loved her family dearly. She kept us all connected by calling frequently, sharing the family news, and reminding us of each other’s birthdays. And she always managed to find and send the perfect card in time for every birthday. Her niece and nephews fondly remember that each birthday card included a matching dollar amount for their age.

Leah had a larger-than-life infectious laugh and loved listening to music, especially 80’s hits with a good beat. She also loved animals and they loved her. She had several beloved fur-kitties in her life, the most recent of which was Mr. Kitty.

She is survived by her siblings, Brent (Claudia) McGinnis, Marla (Safa) McGinnis Toma, and Michael McGinnis; niece and nephews: Kyle, Wesley, Devin, Monica and Thomas; and aunt and uncles, Betty McGinnis, Stanley Sapp, Marvin Yost, and Paul (Mary) Yost.

The family will be holding a private service at a later date. She will be interred at the Letart Evergreen Cemetery in Letart, WV where her parents are buried. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jackson County Dog Pound, c/o: Jackson County Auditor, 275 Portsmouth Street, Jackson, OH 45640. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
