Mary Alice Malone, age 84, of Jackson, passed away at Jenkins Care Community on Friday, July 19, 2019. She was born in Jackson County on September 26, 1934 to the late Albert and Bessie (Whaley) Hughes. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Donald Malone; brothers, Ralph Hughes, William Franklin Hughes, George Hughes and Howard Hughes; sisters, Betty Jane Ewing and Phyllis Ann Rowland; and grandson, Jeremy Gilliland.

She is survived by her son, James “Jim” (Sherry) Malone; daughter, Mary Donice (Keith) Gilliland; grandsons, Keith (April) Malone, Jeff (Marilyn) Malone, James (Amber) Gilliland, Clayton Tyler Gilliland (Gabby Jones) and granddaughter, Stephanie (Braxton) Sloas. Also surviving are great grandsons, Kevin Malone (Bethany Smith), Bentley Gilliland, Colt and Connor Sloas; great granddaughters, Kaya Shaw, Brooklyn and Alexis Malone, Alyssa Gilliland; great grandson, Grayson Malone; and great great granddaughter, Elizabeth Malone, as well as many special nieces and nephews, who survive.

Mary Alice was a member of Bethesda Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. She truly loved and enjoyed her friends and family. Mary Alice had a heart of gold, even though she had polio and was left with disabilities, she never let that stop her from enjoying life. She never wanted pity, she taught us all how to be a better person. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Friends may call Tuesday, July 23rd, 2019 from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow the calling hours at 1:00 with Pastor Daniel King officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
