Jasper “Jep” Hughes, age 93, of Oak Hill, Ohio passed away early during the morning of December 8th, 2025, at Southern Ohio Medical Center Respite Care. Jep was born December 16th, 1933, in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late James and Grace (Rawlins) Hughes.
Jep is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley (Angel) Hughes; his son, Brian (Amanda) Hughes; four grandsons, Kole Hughes, Kyle (Jenna) Hughes, Dylan (Becky) Blevins, and Brant Hughes; three great-granddaughters, Claya Hughes, Gwyn Blevins, and Charlotte Hughes; one great-grandson, Zeke Blevins, all of Oak Hill, Ohio. He is also survived by his brother, Larry Hughes of Oak Hill, Ohio; his sister, Joan Baisden of Jackson, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest son, Gregory Hughes; his daughter, Susan (Hughes) Blevins; sisters, Shirley Phillips, and Virginia Stroth; brothers, Bill, Paul, Brenton, Ronnie, and Terry; and infant brother, Terry.
Jep graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1952 and attended Shawnee University. He was an Army veteran having served two years in the Korean War. He retired from AP Green Refactories.
He loved hunting, bowling, and fishing. He especially enjoyed taking his grandsons fishing.
The family would like to thank Abbott Home Care for the excellent care over the past five years as well as Hospice of SOMC for their compassion and excellent care.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 12th, 2025, from 12PM-2PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. A funeral service with military honors will immediately follow at 2PM with Ronnie Rawlins and Randy Hughes officiating with a burial after at Horeb Cemetery.
