James “Jim” A. Smith, age 88, of Jackson passed away Thursday, October 6, 2016 at Edgewood Manor of Wellston surrounded by his family and friends. He was born April 9, 1928 in Jackson, to the late Ann (Bennett) Smith. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Wilma J. (Lenhart) Smith, of Jackson; daughters, Betty Jean Albert, of Springfield, Ohio and Ruth (David) Burke, of Jackson; grandson, James Israel and grand daughter, Kim Israel, both of Springfield. Also surviving is a half-brother, Leonard Snyder, of Delaware, Ohio and his best friend T.J. Moore, of Jackson. Jim worked for the DT&I railroad for 16 years and then he was self-employed as a roofer and general maintenance. In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by brothers, Rollie and Gabriel Smith and a sister, Jane Gray. A private graveside service will be held at Fairmount Cemetery on Monday, October 10, 2016 with Rev. Janie Karl officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association National Office, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
