Charlotte Ann Shelton was a kind, generous, loving and gentle soul. She also was the strongest woman in this world to her family. She was loyal and honest, but also fierce and feisty. She was one of a kind with a heart bigger than the world itself. She was someone that every member of the entire family held their own special, unique relationship with. Of all the words that could be used to describe her, her three favorites were wife, mother, and grandma. She was the rock to her family, and everyone cherished her. While she could be a bit goofy and make you laugh when needed, she could also be stern and taken seriously when wrong was done. The void she will leave in her family will be felt to the very core. There will never be another one like her to exist, at least in the eyes of those who held her so dear.
The Lord reached down His hand to take Charlotte's in His and lead her home on March 12, 2022, at 12:56 a.m. She passed away at home surrounded by people who love her. While her family is sad from her passing, they also feel joy for her, knowing there is no more sickness, and she is now home to her Lord.
On January 28, 1944, Charlotte was born to Edward and Wanda Conley of Oak Hill, Ohio. Both of her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded by a sister, Gail Conley, who was taken home shortly after birth; and her grandparents, Noah and Zeffie Conley, and Louis and Mildred Mitchem.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Shelton, whom she married on December 3rd of 1960. The two were soul mates, and they knew from the moment they met that they would raise a family and grow old together. Charlotte and Bobby were married sixty-one years, so they had grown OLD together, AND that is a treasure in itself.
In addition to her loving husband, Charlotte is survived by her three children, Annette and Gus Conley, Kathie Roach, and Bobby and Cathy Shelton. She loved all three of her children dearly and remained active in all three of their lives until the end of hers. She had unique, special relationships with all three. Charlotte is also survived by a brother, Edward Conley; a sister, Stacy Roach; and preceding her in death another sister, that was also a best friend, Kay Waugh.
Furthermore, Charlotte was the grandmother to six grandchildren, five living, and one deceased last year. Wendy Rae Kanouse was the first born and took on the role as her caregiver until her very last breath. Next, came Will Kanouse, who on April 6th in 2021, preceded her in death. Her third grandchild, and second grandson, was Derek Conley.
Following would come Brandina Moore and Tabitha Conley. Last, but not least, and just as precious and special to Charlotte as the first five, was Caitlin Ann Riepenoff (Hunter).
Every one of her grandkids held her very dear to their hearts. She was an excellent grandma who taught her grandkids many things when they were younger. She was always doing activities or reading or singing. She was also a great-grandmother whom the great-grandchildren named Grandma Daisy, because of her dog Daisy of thirteen years. Dakota, Nick and Tyler Kanouse each loved their Grandma Daisy very much and would look forward to going to her house for cookouts, ball games, and just ordinary visits. Also was Madelyne Grace Conley.
The loss of Charlotte Ann Shelton will be felt forever by all her family. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten, but they look forward to one day being reunited with her again.
Her funeral will be on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. Calling hours will be from 2:00 to 4:00 with a service following from 4:00 – 5:00. There will be a graveside service afterwards at CM Cemetery in Oak Hill. Her granddaughter, Wendy Kanouse, will be officiating the services as requested by Charlotte. She asked for Wendy because she knew that their deep love and special bond would help her give a beautiful sendoff, as she would speak from the bottom of her heart about Charlotte's life.
