Helen L. Arnott, age 85, of Oak Hill, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2018 while under Holzer Hospice care at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio. Helen was born July 19, 1932 to the late Hazel Margaret (Wallace) and Fay George Arnott in Blackfork, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her father, March 29,1953 and mother, April 8, 1985.
Helen was employed by Oak Hill Local School system as secretary to the superintendent in August 1950 and as treasurer in 1953. She served in that position for a total of 49 years until her retirement on June 30, 1999.
Helen was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church, serving as secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school since 1948 and as treasurer to the church to the present time. She was also an elder. Helen was an active member of both Oak Hill Senior Citizen groups, serving as secretary for many years until June 2013. She was Club Queen in 2005. She was also a member of the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) of Jackson County. She also served as a volunteer in the elementary schools as a Remedial Reading helper and volunteered in many other areas.
Helen is survived by cousins, Walt, Phillip and Brian Wallace, Evelyn Orr, Janice Stansberry, all of Ohio; Diana Luciania, of Florida; and Curt, Kevin, Kent, Randy and Johnny Arnott, all of Texas. Helen also leaves behind, to mourn and miss her, her beloved feline companion “Muffin” and faithful neighbors and caregivers, when necessary, Debra and Lonnie Delaney.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 4-8 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Thursday, March 29, 2018 at the funeral home with Pastor Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Church, 610 Gallia-Blackfork Rd, Oak Hill, OH 45656 and/or Holzer Hospice, 2881 OH-160, Gallipolis, OH 45631, care of Holzer Hospice.
