Verna Marcum, age 80, of Oak Hill, Ohio passed away Saturday, October 28, 2017 at Edgewood Manor in Wellston. She was born May 27, 1937 in Oak Hill on John Woods Rd to the late John and Nancy (Johnson) Woods.

She was a retired bus driver for Head Start, she enjoyed fishing with her husband at Lake Jackson, saying it was some of the best times of their lives. Big family dinners and lots of fun is what she enjoyed the most, saying her family was her whole world.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy (Allen) Rutherford, of Patriot, Ohio, and Stacy (Ronnie) Bond, of Jackson; granddaughter, Jenna Bond, of Jackson; grandson, Brandan (Amanda) Allen, of Jackson; former daughter-in-law, Susan Marcum, of Bidwell, Oh; sisters-in-law, Ruby Woods, of Oak Hill and Josie McKenzie, of Virginia; brother-in-law, Lee “Buddy” Clark, of Florida and numerous other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, of 57 years, Samuel (Captain) Marcum; son, Samuel “Sammy” Marcum; brothers, Granville (Delphia) Woods, Orville (Mary Jane) Woods, Fred (Irene) Woods and Kenneth Woods, all of Oak Hill; sisters, Lena (Don Nance) (Dutch) Howard, of Oak Hill, Goldie (Given) McCain, of Oak Hill and Marjorie (Raymond) Kuhn, of Sandusky, Ohio.

The family would like to give special thanks to Edgewood Manor of Wellston and Heartland Hospice for their special care of Verna.

Friends may call Thursday, November 2, 2017 from 12-2 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will immediately follow calling hours at 2:00 PM with Rev Fred Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in Horeb Cemetery.
