Donna Raye (Humphrey) Swords, age 74, of Patriot, Ohio went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky following a brief illness. She was born on January 12, 1944 in Gallipolis to the late Ray Edgar and Sylvia May (Trainer) Humphrey.
Right from the start Donna was a spitfire that knew what she wanted and knew exactly what to do to get it. Throughout her life Donna has had many different occupations from selling Rubbermaid to working at Mitchell Lace Shoe Factory, which she loved to kid about and tell everyone that she was a “stripper”. She loved being the custodian for Gallia Baptist Church for several years and then as a deli and bakery worker for Eastman Foodland in Oak Hill. Donna married her sweetheart William Clarence Swords February 24, 1962. Together they had 6 children. Donna loved her family and loved life. She was always trying to help someone else and make sure their day was better. She was the kind of person that when you met her, you just fell in love with her. She was everyone’s mom and grandmother. This is evident in the number of friends that she called her kids and grandkids. Donna loved her grandkids and great grandkids and didn’t know how to tell them no. She loved to see them smiling and happy and loved hearing about their adventures and watching them with their school sports, activities and more. Donna was a member of the Gallia Baptist Church and she will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
Donna is survived by her children, Terri Thacker, of West Portsmouth, Randell Scott Swords, of Gallia, Timothy Allen (Kim) Swords, of Sciotoville, Rickey Ray Swords, of Chillicothe, William Clarence Swords II, of Gallia, and Michael Kevin Swords, of Gallia, Ohio. Donna was blessed with 19 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and a very special snuggle bunny.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, William C. (Bob) Swords and infant grandson, Randell Scott Swords II.
