Larry David Delaney, age 72, went peacefully home to rest on Friday, October 11th, 2019 at the Hospice of Defiance.

Romans 14:8 For if we live, we live to the lord, and if we die, we die to the lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the lords.

From a young age, it was apparent that Larry would not go down without a good fight. Battling was something he did throughout his years. At the age of 12, he came down with rheumatic fever. His family was told by the doctors that they didn't expect him to live throughout the night, but he fought his way through that. Eventually he went in to serve in the Army, and in the Vietnam war. During his time there, he was injured, earning him the purple heart. Then he went on to have four sons, Terry, David, Chris, and Josh. Four boys, I don't think there needs to be an explanation on the battle, of raising four rambunctious boys. Throughout the years, Larry managed to keep up a good count of fender benders. With this, we learned that humans could have more than the cats standard 9 lives.

Over the past year or so, Larry had his battles with sickness, and he fought his way through many of them. On October 11th, a little after 2PM, Larry didn't lose his battle. He simply went home to rest. "Come to me...I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28

Larry had a love of sports, fishing, laughter, a cold can of Pepsi, and was very proud about serving his country. He was very quick-witted, which brought on great conversations, no matter who you were, young or old. Larry was able to be a friend to anyone. Larry was a member of various clubs before moving up north, and no, not that far up north, he was an Ohio state fan after all.

Larry is survived by his mother, Goldie; sons, Terry, David, Chris (Ashley), and Josh; step-daughter, Mistie; grandchildren: Linzie, Aaron, Brandon, Trey, Kennedy, Maddox, Sutton, and Bodhi; sisters, Marlene (Baxter) and Judy (Larry); nephews, Jed, Kevin, Kyle, and Tony; nieces, Cindy and Paula; as well as countless friends and a long list of relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Delaney; grandparents: David and Mae Delaney and Lewis and Myrtle Coo; and an infant granddaughter. Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 12PM-2PM with funeral services immediately following at 2PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Graveside services with military honors will follow at C.M. Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
