Ty Burtrand, age 37, of Jackson, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on April 26, 1988, in Chillicothe, Ohio, to Mark and Rhonda (Kearns) Burtrand.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of almost 8 years, Laura (Ellenberger) Burtrand; brother, Jay (Tiffany) Burtrand, of Jackson; mother and father-in-law, Johnny and Denise Ellenberger, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, William and Janet Kearns, and paternal grandparents, Lee and Lou Burtrand.
Ty graduated from Jackson High School in 2006. Both during high school and after graduation, he worked on the open water in Chesapeake Beach, MD, where he worked on charter fishing boats, and also obtained his license as a diver. In 2015, he married the love of his life, Laura Ellenberger. Ty worked at Kenworth until his health declined. He was an animal lover and adored his dogs, Bo, Popper, and Jasmine. He was one of a kind. He was a very strong individual, dealing with health issues since the age of 12. Ty touched many people throughout his life and to know him was to love him. In his memory, and in lieu of flowers, Ty would want donations to go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
At his request, his body will be cremated. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, from 12-2 PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Rob Ervin and Janie Karl officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.
