Mollie Ann (Brown) Wertz, age 81, of Jackson, Ohio passed away Saturday, February 24th, 2024. She was born September 12th, 1942, in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Mary and William “Dick” Brown.

 

She is survived by two daughters, Amy Katherine (Scot) Cook and Jennifer Lynn Spires; two granddaughters, Anna Elizabeth Cook and Nea Nicole Cook; grandson, Joshua Daniel Spires; one brother, Charles D. Brown; sister-in-law, Rebecca; two nieces, Katie Brown and Erin Lewis.

 

In addition to her parents, Mollie was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, William Joseph “Jay” Spires.

 

Mollie attended Franklin Elementary School and was a 1960 graduate of Jackson High School. She attended the University of Rio Grande receiving her bachelor’s degree in education as well as a master’s degree in fine arts. Mollie taught in both Butler County, Ohio, and with Jackson City Schools retiring after 35 years of service. Mollie loved her students and her teaching friends and enjoyed every day she spent with them.

 

She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and an agent for Appalachia Realty. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and reading.

 

Mollie was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

 

The family would like to invite friends and family to join them in a Celebration of Life at 2 Dickason Street on Saturday, April 6th, 2024, from 1PM-4PM. Per her wishes, a private graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor may be made to the Football Mother’s Club in memory of William “Jay” Spires or to the Jackson Roundball Club.
