Leona “Grace” (Simpson) Fairchild, born March 11th, 1936, to Harold and Gladys (Brunton) Simpson in Blackfork, Ohio passed away Thursday, October 3rd, 2024, at Holzer Hospital of Gallipolis surrounded by her daughter, Sherry and her son and daughter-in-law, Sonny and Carol.


Grace married Elwood “Bill” Fairchild on February 1st, 1953, and to this union was born three children: Debbie, Sherry, and Sonny Fairchild.


She was a hard worker both at home and at her outside jobs at GC Murphy, and then in the kitchen at Holzer Hospital. She attended Elizabeth Chapel in Gallipolis.


Grace had two siblings, Jimmy, who passed away after birth, and Donna (Walker) Simpson, whom she loved and adored, and a nephew, Rondall Walker; and a niece, Crystal Walker whom was very special to her.


Gracie was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Gladys Simpson; her brother, Jimmy Simpson; her husband, Bill Fairchild; her mother and father-in-law, Frank and Clova Fairchild; as well as several sisters and brothers-in-law.


She is survived by her three children: Debbie (Steve) Betts, Cheryl “Sherry” (Carl) Dewitt; and Sonny (Carol) Fairchild; 8 grandchildren: Kenny (Jamie) Canter, Scott (Kerry) Canter, Steven (Katelyn) Betts, Carl II (Jennifer) Dewitt, Jeremy (Kelly) Dewitt, Nicholas (Jessica) Morgan, Tim (Tabitha) Fairchild, and Christopher (Larissa) Fairchild; 18 great-grandchildren: Kayla (Josh) Bromosky, Devin Canter, Lil Kenny and Ani Canter, Torie (Kyle) Sinnock, Erin Canter (Wes Cline), Addison, Kaleb, and Evan Dewitt, Ryker Fairchild, Peyton Parish-Deshields, Adriel and Hadley Morgan, Rylee Deshields, Sloane Warren, and Brycen and Jaelyn Kemper; five great-great-grandchildren: Gracelynn, Kyler, Charlotte, Chase, and Josh.


Grace was always a child of God and a light to all she knew and met. One of her last requests was for her family to go to Heaven with her. RIP Mommy! We love you and will see you again someday.


Calling hours will be held on Monday, October 7th, 2024, from 4-8PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, at 2PM with additional calling hours from 12-2PM immediately prior. Burial will follow at Hill Cemetery.
