Larry Wayne Ghearing, age 89, of Mineola, TX and formerly of Circleville, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Caraday of Quitman on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. He was born July 23, 1934, in Wellston, Ohio to the late Raymond and Lucille Ghearing.


He is survived by son Larry Lee (Kim) Ghearing of Quitman, TX, step-granddaughter Kristine (Mikie) Samples of Alba, TX and step-greatgrandsons Tucker and Easton along with sister, Shirley Davis and brother, Leonard (Carol) Ghearing.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Winifred; brothers, George Ghearing, John Ghearing and Joe Ghearing; and sisters, Pat Lee, Roberta Handley, and Rose Prinzbach; and 2 infant children.


Larry graduated from Wellston High School in Wellston, OH where he excelled at sports and was named to the 1951 National High School All American Football Team. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Army. After his service in the Army, he went to work at General Telephone Company where he met Winnie and they shared a special 66 years of committed marriage. Upon retirement, Larry became very proficient at woodworking and created beautiful furniture which continues to be enjoyed by family and friends. He also mastered the art of chair caning with his work existing in hundreds of chairs throughout Ohio and beyond. Larry was a member of Community United Methodist Church in Circleville.


Visitation will be held at Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Jackson on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 6 PM to 8 PM. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 10 AM at Hill Cemetery in Thurman with Pastor Janie Karl officiating.
