Joseph Douglas Saunders, age 73, of Jackson, Ohio unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, at Holzer of Jackson. He was born January 8th, 1948, in Mansfield, Ohio to the late Joseph and Della (Ashley) Saunders.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 46 years, Janie (Buchanan) Saunders; his children: Michael (Tracy) Saunders, Jason Saunders, and Ashley (John) Hood; grandchildren: Noah and Noel Saunders, Dakota Saunders, and Jacob, Nathan, and Joshua Hood; siblings: Norma Emerson-Fuchs, Wanda Czechlewski, Mary Howard, Marvin Saunders, and Teresa Schumacher; brothers-in-law, Dave Summers and Lary (Marcia) Buchanan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Summers and one infant sister.
Joseph was a 1967 graduate of South Webster High School. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Prior to losing his eyesight, Joseph enjoyed hunting with his brother and his son, Michael. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and hunting for Indian artifacts. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 16th, 2021, from 1-3PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson.
