“John” Johnny Leo Carpenter, age, 62 of Patriot, OH went to be with the Lord on Friday, July 9, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born April 29, 1959, in Selina, Ohio to Virginia (Rue) Carpenter and the late Elmer Leo Carpenter.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 41 years, Penny (Bowen) Carpenter; one son, Michael (Amanda) Carpenter, of Gallipolis; one daughter, Lora (Jeremy) Thornton, of Patriot; grandchildren, Destiny and Cameron Carpenter, Braden, Nathan and Olivia Thornton; one brother, Jim (Kyla) Carpenter, of Gallipolis; sisters, Lorie (Glenn) Smith, of Eure, North Carolina and Melissa Carpenter, of Patriot. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many, many friends.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by an infant sister.
John attended Southwestern schools. He married the love of his life, Penny on February 14, 1980. Together, they started their family in Patriot. John worked in sheet metal fabrication starting at the age of 17 and continued this trade for 30 years. Starting in 1992, he worked as an electrician in the IBW Union #1377. He was an avid outdoorsman. He dearly loved his grandchildren.
Friends may call Monday, July 12, 2021 from 11-1 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with Brandon Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Gallia Baptist Cemetery.
