John Edward Betts, age 88, of Oak Hill passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Buckeye Forest, in Jackson. He was born March 26, 1935, in Oak Hill, to the late Harrison Betts and Ethel (Kuhn) McCain.
He is survived by his wife of over 70 years, Lois (Thornton) Betts; daughter, Edna White, of Louisianna; son, Steven A. (Debbie) Betts, of Oak Hill; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Betts, of Oak Hill; grandchildren, Stacey Vennes, Ronald Lee Riffe, Patricia Zinn, Tammy Ruth Betts, Christina Trowbridge, Kellie Chaney, Travis Lee McDaniel and Danielle Faith Gillum; and also surviving are great grandchildren: Dakota Dowden, Steven E. Betts, Eric Zinn, Danielle Zinn, Macy Zinn, Kylan Childers, Jersey McDaniel, Charli McDaniel, Remington Biggs, and Owen Gillum; cousin, Betty Betts and several great great children and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Charles Edward Betts, and Thomas Harrison Betts; sisters, Ruth Betts, and Pearl Kelly; two brothers, Jack Melvin Betts and William Fulk.
He went to Oak Hill Schools and then married the love of his life Lois on December 26, 1953. He then worked at the Oak Hill Foundry Machine works until being disabled in 1976. He loved hunting, especially deer and turkeys.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, from 11:00 – 1:00 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill, Ohio. Funeral services will follow Tuesday at 1:00 with Pastor Allen Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Horeb Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
