Elaine (Metheny) Wimer, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 13th, 2021, at Holzer Assisted Living in Jackson. She was born January 23rd, 1932, in Morgantown, West Virginia to the late Helen DeWitt and Francis Metheny.
On January 21st, 1949, she married Roscoe Wimer Jr., and moved to Cleveland, Ohio then to Jackson, Ohio in 1953. Elaine was very active throughout her life. She enjoyed archery, camping, traveling, square dancing, playing cards, and dominoes. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Lick Local and Kinnison Elementary nurturing children there. She was also a member of Christ United Methodist Church, volunteering there as long as she was able.
Elaine is survived by her sister, Patricia (Ron) Speelman of Fairmount, West Virginia; brother-in-law, Eugene (Val Del) Wimer of Indiana; sisters-in-law, Ellen Kay (Alan) Hagedorn of Delaware and Jan (Pete) Wimer of Morgantown, West Virginia; daughters, Helen Jo (Mike) Smith of Georgetown, Ohio, Brenda (Albert) Smith of Jackson, Ohio, and Terri (Steve) Tackett of Carolina Beach, North Carolina; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear husband, Roscoe Wimer; in-laws, Roscoe and Josephine (Colaw) Wimer; brothers-in-law, Ronnie McQuown, Don Annonio, and Pete Wimer; sister-in-law, Faye Annonio; and daughter, Lavon (Pat) Miller.
The family wishes to thank the family of workers at Holzer Assisted Living for the loving care Elaine received while there.
Public calling hours will be held on Monday, October 18th, 2021, from 11-12:30PM. A private funeral service will be held for the family with Pastor Josh Andrews officiating.
