David Eugene Weddington

Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home

202 W Maple Avenue

Oak Hill, OH 45656

David Eugene Weddington went by many names. He was Hollywood, Nuck, Dave, Bub, Uncle, and Boo. Never Sir.

Born January 6, 1948, in Pike County, Kentucky, Dave graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1968. In 1973, he went to work at A.P. Green, where he remained for 42 years, until his retirement in 2015.

Throughout his life, Dave never encountered a stranger. Known for his boisterous, outgoing personality, Dave was a regular at local restaurants, grocery stores, and gas stations, where he spent time catching up with the numerous friends he inevitably saw. Dave loved movies, in theaters and at home, and by the early 2000s, his collection of VHS tapes numbered well into the hundreds. He also loved music and was known to play it loud and sing along, while driving one of the various vehicles he owned over the years.

Dave was the epitome of a proud Appalachian: hard-working, loyal, and both stubborn and generous to a fault. He would give you the shirt off his back and then not talk to you for a month when you made him mad. Ultimately, though, he was full of love. Nothing about his life was easy, but Dave managed to focus on the good stuff: the pleasure of a meal, the company of animals, time with his family. And when he passed, on April 24, 2024, he left behind only the good stuff in the memories of the many who love him more than he could have known.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian (Blackburn) Weddington and Oral “Buster” Weddington, and his beloved dog, Bullet.

He leaves behind a son, David “Kevin” Weddington; three sisters: Patsy (David) Moore, Debi Weddington, and Bonnie (Dave) Maynard; ex-wife Linda Webb; numerous nieces and nephews, and innumerable friends.

Whatever name you called him, you always knew where you stood with Dave, and if you didn’t, he’d tell you–in a loud voice peppered with curse words. He was the real article; what you saw was what you got. And you didn’t get better than Dave Weddington.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 29th, 2024, from 11AM-1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill with a funeral service immediately after. Burial will follow at Horeb Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
