Catherine Elizabeth French, age 79, of Oak Hill, Ohio passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Four Winds Nursing Home of Jackson. She was born August 1, 1941 to the late William and Leona (Woods) Canter of Oak Hill, Ohio.


She is survived by her children: Ruthie Jean Wallace (Rick Cochran), Ethel Irene French (Johnnie Adams), and Marlin William French Jr. (Kim Kerns) all of Oak Hill, Ohio; her grandchildren: Jeremy Wallace of Springfield, Ohio, Destine Rucker of Patriot, Ohio, and Justin Cochran of Oak Hill, Ohio; three great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia Hughes of Oak Hill, Ohio; as well as other close family members that include, Jerry French (Kristi Russell) of Oak Hill, Ohio, Myah Remy of Jackson, Ohio, Madison French of Jackson, Ohio; and many other nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her loyal dog and companion, Ranger.


In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by brothers: William Canter of Sandusky, Ohio, John Canter of Jackson, Ohio, and Thomas Canter of Vermillion, Ohio and sisters, Viola Bowen and Martha Canter both of Oak Hill, Ohio.


Catherine was an outstanding cook and baker who was known for her pies and homemade noodles. She was an avid bingo enthusiast and greatly enjoyed quilting. Her personality could light up any room and she was never scared to stand up for what she believed in. Catherine loved her family and friends with all her heart. She will be forever missed by everyone that knew her, her memory will forever be in our heart and souls.



Friends may call Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 11AM-1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1PM with Rev. Fred Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Per CDC guidelines and governor recommendations, everyone is required to wear a mask and practice proper social distancing.
