Marilyn was a life-long resident of Oak Hill. She graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1949 and shortly thereafter began working as the clerk for the electric company in town. In the 1950’s and 60’s she was the face that you saw as you paid your electric bill in person. After the Oak Hill office was closed, she transferred to Wellston where she continued to work for the electric company until she retired in 1993. Marilyn always enjoyed baking. She baked many varieties of cookies and cakes and her grandchildren especially enjoyed her homemade strawberry jam. She was known for her iced sugar cookies, Texas Sheet Cake, and her famous chocolate chip cookies.

Marilyn was the eldest daughter of Edward George and Mary Gladys (Morgan) Griffiths who both preceded her in death. She had one brother, David Gregory Griffiths, who died in 1953. Marilyn was married in 1959 to Lloyd Llewellyn Hughes who in 1985 preceded her in death. She also joins family members John Edward and Beulah Morgan in heaven. Marilyn is survived by her son, John Gregory Hughes, MD and his wife Jennifer Christine Schmidt Hughes, PhD. Marilyn is also survived by her four grandchildren: Emily Christine, Donald Gregory, Maxwell David, and William John.
