Wanda Irene (Massie) Miller, age 89, of Oak Hill, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017 due to Alzheimer related complications at Crestwood Care in Shelby, Ohio. She was born on August 27, 1927 to the late William and Jessie (Loper) Massie.
In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Daniel Miller, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Kay and Jim Sharp, a grandson, Michael Simmering and five brothers, Bob, Jim, Tom, Ray and Harold Massie.
Prior to her illness, Wanda was a longtime member of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Oak Hill. She was also a member of the Oak Hill and Jackson County Senior Citizens and the Jackson County Homemakers. She was honored by being named Jackson County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 2002. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, crafts and visiting new places, often traveling on the tour bus with her friends. Wanda loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by her daughters, Pam (Ed) Gillen of Noblesville, Indiana and Debbie (Larry) Simmering of Mansfield, Ohio; 7 grandchildren, Angie (Dave) Seitz, of Oak Hill; John Sharp of Jackson; Cory Sharp of Oak Hill; Matt (Stacie) Gillen of Indianapolis, Indiana; Amy Gillen of San Diego, California; Michelle (Stewart) Mitchell of Shelby, Ohio; and Dan (Carrie) Simmering of Norfolk, Virginia. She also leaves behind 10 great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jayden and Kiana Sharp, Mariah Howard, Brendon Gillen, Emily and Bryson Mitchell, and Jackson, Austin and Luke Simmering. Also surviving are her sisters, Betty Settles and Donna Delong; brothers, Jack and David Massie as well as several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at 11 AM at the funeral home with Rev. Fred Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow at the C.M. Cemetery in Oak Hill, Ohio.
