Lawrence “Larry” Neer, age 89, of Jackson, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026.

Born on February 24, 1937, Lawrence was the son of the late Marvin and Ruby Neer. He was raised on a dairy farm in Catawba, Ohio, where he developed a strong work ethic that guided him throughout his life. He graduated from Northeastern High School in 1955 and subsequently enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving his country for three years.

Following his military service, Lawrence attended Ohio State University, where he majored in Dairy Technology and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1964. He went on to spend the next 27 years working as a plant supervisor for various manufacturing companies. Later, he and his wife, Ruthann, purchased and operated the Holly Hill Motel, which they owned and managed until 1997.

Lawrence was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He found great joy in spending time with his family, golfing, hunting, and raising a herd of Charolais cattle.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruthann Neer; his sons, Gary (Traci) Neer, Douglas (Karen) Neer, and Gregory (Pamela) Neer; his grandchildren, Courtney (William), Garret, Ian, Kayla, Brenna, Andrew (Lisa), Adam (Skylar), Allison, and Ashton (Hannah); and his great-grandchild, Lyla. He was also eagerly anticipating the arrival of his great-grandson, Mason Lawrance, due in May.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Ruby Neer, and his brothers, Clifford, Elwood, and Marion Neer.

A private service for immediate families will be held at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home, followed by a committal service at Fairmount Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
