With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Julis “Cookie” Cook, age 90, of Jackson, Ohio. He passed away the evening of Tuesday, June 30th, 2026, at Adena Health System ER after years of battling heart disease. He was born January 29th, 1936, in Knott County, Kentucky to the late Rufus and Anna (Fout) Cook.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Barbara (Culwell) Cook; brothers, Larry and Lucas Cook; and sister, Velma Cook.
Together he and Barbara were blessed with a daughter, Teresa (Mickey) Rothgeb and a son, Michael (Kelly) Cook, all of whom survives. He is also survived by grandchildren: Tiffany, Julia, Briar, and Blaze; great-grandchildren: Waylon, Scarlet, Lily, and Otto; sisters, Pauline Ray and Elma Goheen; brother, Walt (Rosetta) Cook; sister-in-law, Brenda Cook; special friends, Jimmy and Jennifer Blackburn; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In earlier years, Julis worked at both Chun King and Pillsbury. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, tinkering on cars, and watching Nascar races and The Price is Right. Julis was a devoted family man and devout Christian who loved the Lord and used his talents of singing and playing his guitar to honor him. He attended Trippieville Baptist Church.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 6th, 2026, from 11AM-1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson with a funeral immediately after at 1PM. Burial will follow at Bethel Ridge Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
