Jennifer M. Hughes, of Oak Hill, passed away at the Kobacker House in Columbus after a battle with cancer at the age of 48. She was born February 2, 1977, in Xenia, Ohio to Dean and Sylvia (Smith) Driscoll.
Jennifer graduated from Greenview High School in 1995, and that fall enrolled in the University of Rio Grande earning a degree in Mass Communications in 2000. While at Rio Grande she pledged the Zeta Theta Chi Sorority. Jennifer also was editor of the school student ran newspaper, Signals. She had a show on the university cable channel, and a radio show on the university radio station and worked in the Food Court. Jennifer worked a full-time job while taking full time classes. While at Rio, she met her beloved husband, Scott. They started dating on February 14, 1998, and married September 1, 2001.
Shortly after graduating from Rio Grande, Jennifer was hired by the Jackson County Times Journal as a reporter. A few years later, she was promoted to Editor, and held the Editor position until 2016. In 2016, Jennifer became the Executive Director of the Markay Cultural Arts Center. She went back to the Jackson County Times Journal in 2018 for a few months before going to work at the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office as an administrative assistant. She held this position until February 2025, when her health forced her to stop working. From 2001 until 2025, Jennifer volunteered for the Oak Hill Festival of Flags, spending countless hours with the other members working fundraisers, promoting the festival, and looking for entertainment. A few years after starting at the Festival of Flags, Jennifer saw Dwight Icenhower in concert at the festival. Shortly after that show Jennifer began helping with Dwight’s Fan Club. Eventually she began booking events, designing merchandise and organizing fan club events for Dwight. In September 2018 she was appointed to Oak Hill Village Council. Jennifer served on Council for 7 years. 6 of those years she served as Council President before resigning in August 2025.
She loved to travel, especially cruises, attending Dwight Icenhower events, designing with her Cricut, promoting on social media and spending time with her family. Jennifer will be missed her fur baby, Daisy.
In addition to her husband, Scott, she is survived by her mother, Sylvia Driscoll; mother-in-law, Sue Hughes; brother, Matthew (Alicia) Driscoll; sisters, Sherry (Brad) Rittenhouse, Amy (Gary) Test, Kathy (Troy) Erbes, and Tracey Driscoll; sister-in-law, Patricia Evans; niece, Katie (Josh) McElroy; and nephews, Otis and Jaxon Driscoll.
Jennifer is preceded in death by her father, Dean Driscoll; father-in-law, Bill Hughes; and sister-in-law, Sharon Beatty.
Throughout all her emergency room, hospital stays, and illness in general, her husband Scott never left her side.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 11-2 at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home in Oak Hill. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 with Pastor Stan Howard officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.lewisgillum.com.
