Janie Ellen Saunders, age 71, of Jackson, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 27th, 2023, at Holzer ER of Jackson. She was born October 15th, 1951, to the late William and Katherine (Evans) Buchanan.

Janie was a 1969 graduate of Jackson High School. She was employed at Big Bear for 37 years and then went on to work at the Jackson County Water Company from which she retired. Janie had an infectious laugh and was known for being a jokester. She never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking to those she knew everywhere she went. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Jason (Victoria) Saunders; daughter, Ashley (John) Hood; grandchildren: Noah and Noel Saunders and Jacob, Nathaniel, and Joshua Hood; special friends, Vicki Williams and Mary Gilliland; and her dog, Willie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Saunders and her brother, Paul Larry Buchanan.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 30th, 2023 from 6-8PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 31st, 2023, at 2PM at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Jadrnicek officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
