Edwin Vernon Jones, 81, of Scottown, Ohio, who passed away on June 18, 2026, at Abbyshire Place in Gallipolis.
Born on June 10, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, Ed was the son of the late Delbert Jones and Lillian Jones Sprague. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald “Buddy” Jones and Jack Jones, both of Jackson.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Jayne (Porter) Jones; his children, Loren Jones of Wellston, Vicki (Dale) Woerner of Scottown, Brad Dillinger of Jackson, and Stephanie Westerfield of Columbus; his brother, Matthew Sprague of Wellston; and his very close cousin, Larry Farrar of Jackson.
He was a proud grandfather to six granddaughters: Kyla (Rob) Coury, Lacee Perry, Chelsey (Jenson) Reece, Olivia Jones, Carly Jones, and Ashlyn Dillinger. He was also blessed with eight great-granddaughters: Harper, Laken, and Myah Coury; Addilyne Dillinger; Baylin and Zia Hall; and Skelynn and Stella Reece. Nothing brought a bigger smile to Ed’s face than spending time with his great-granddaughters.
Ed retired after 31 years with A.J. Stockmeister Inc. and was also a longtime employee of Jackson's Iron City Pipe and Supply. Known to many coworkers as “Jonsey,” he was a proud member of Plumbers and Pipefitters local #577 of Portsmouth and honorably served his country in the United States Navy.
A hardworking man throughout his life, Ed valued dedication and responsibility. He and Jayne enjoyed spending winters in Haines City, Florida, where they built many lasting friendships and created countless memories together. He loved working in the yard, taking golf cart rides, and playing bingo. Ed was an avid fan of Ohio State Buckeyes football and NASCAR and looked forward to following his favorite teams and drivers.
Never one to shy away from having fun, Ed often participated in skits and community activities in Florida, where Jayne frequently cast him in humorous roles that brought laughter to friends and neighbors. Those who knew Ed will remember his unique sayings, quick wit, and unmistakable personality.
Above all, Ed cherished time spent with his family, especially his great-granddaughters, who always brought a smile to his face.
