Doris Elveree (Rhea) Ward, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, October 27th, 2021, at Jenkins Care Community in Wellston, Ohio. She lived her entire life in the Cove Community. She was born January 5th, 1924, in Jackson County, Ohio to the late Delbert and Mary Rhea.


Doris was a 1942 graduate of Jackson High School. In 1941 she was on the Jackson County Apple Festival Queen’s Court. She was also a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.


On August 31st, 1944, she married the late, Everett L. Ward. Doris was very active with her family and liked to bake, sew, and work in her garden. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years, worked at the National Fire Works during World War II, Stifflers Store, and Luckoffs.


Doris is survived by her two children, Barbara Ward (Stan) Coppock of Springsboro, Ohio and Rick (Bonnie) Ward of Waverly, Ohio; two grandchildren, Lisa Coppock (Andrew) Childs and Jairus (Samantha) Ward. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, Alexa Childs, Sophia Childs, and Rowan Ward; two sisters, Sue Waugh of Jackson, Ohio and Eileen Carmichael of South Webster, Ohio; two brothers, Floyd Rhea of Jackson, Ohio and Norman (Flora) Rhea of Jackson, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear husband, Everett Ward; brothers, Charles Rhea and Oscar Rhea; infant sister, Carol Jean Rhea; sister-in-law, Carolyn Rhea; brothers-in-law, Paul Carmichael and David Waugh.


The family wishes to thank the Jenkins Care Community for the loving care Doris received while there.


Doris will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother (mama), and great-grandmother. She leaves us wonderful, happy memories and her love will continue to be a guiding force in our lives.


Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 1st, 2021, from 11-1PM at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1PM with Pastor Kevin Greene officiating. Burial will follow at Hanna Cemetery.
