It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Leo Thacker Jr., who left us on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on September 22, 1952, Donald was a beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend.

 

Donald had a profound love for fishing and spent countless hours enjoying the serene beauty of Lake Erie. His passion for the outdoors was infectious, and he often shared his love for fishing with family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

 

He graduated from Marion High School, in Marion, Ohio.  Donald served in the United States Marines in the Vietnam Conflict and held a black belt in Karate.  He retired from Verizon after 38 years of service.

 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Donald Leo Thacker Sr. and Laura Eleanor (Snyder).

 

He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Charlotte Cheyenne Thacker; daughters, Michelle (Scott) Tidwell, Melissa Sowers, Melinda (Josh) Hopkins, and Talisha (Jeremy) Holloway; grandchildren, Shelby, Madison, Alan, Zach, Ethan, Elizabeth, Logan, Melanie and Jenna; sister, Barbara Neidig; and brother, David Thacker. Donald’s legacy will live on through the stories and laughter shared by those who knew him best.

 

Visitation will be held at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Oak Hill on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 12-3 PM. Funeral services will follow at 3PM.  Graveside military honors and burial will follow at Horeb Cemetery, and immediately following the burial there will be a celebration of Donald’s life held at his home, where friends and family are invited to gather and honor his memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Walleyes for Wounded Heroes, P.O. Box 885, Port Clinton, Ohio, 43452 reflecting Donald’s love for nature and his community.
